PSSSSST!
CAN WE TALK ??
Do you have one of these?
If you do, chances are from good to excellent that you also have a litter box (unless your 'Fluffy' is toilet trained; our isn't!). But don't you just dread having to clean your cat or kitten's litter box? What a distasteful job; but a job, nonetheless, that HAS to be done. We've had a cat (or cats) for as far back as I can remember. I tried everything to make changing a cat's litter box easier; all to no avail. I EVEN tried that 'Litter Maid' 'automatic' cat litter box but I wasn't impressed with it and I returned it. Then, it was back to the litter box once again and all of the distasteful details of changing it. And don't forget about all of the cat litter that's 'kicked out' onto the floor surrounding the litter box.
All this time, I've been thinking: "There HAS to be a better way!" I just had to figure out what that 'better way' was. Now with winter coming, we can no longer take the 'dirty' litter box outside to rinse it out. And
rinsing it out in the laundry tub isn't an option, either. So, what's a person to do?
I saw some different style litter boxes, with covers, in some catalogue or some newspaper that I was looking at. The idea of having a 'cover' on a litter box made sense to me; kinda like a 'domed' athletic field. That way, I reasoned, the litter that normally gets 'kicked out' of the litter box and onto the floor, would remain in the litter box. Little, if any, mess to clean up.
So, I got in my car and went to my local
Once there, I looked at the various types of 'covered' litter boxes to see what was available and which litter box had which advantages. I finally settled on this one:
It cost us $16.49 and is basically a two piece unit. The 'top cover' of the unit can be detached from the bottom half that holds the cat litter. This is a good concept but I refined it even more.
I thought, "I'll still have to wash out the lower unit after emptying all of the 'used' cat litter and other crap (no pun intended) into the trash. Because I still have to do that, I haven't really accomplished anything.
But then the came on !!
Why not get some plastic litter box 'liners' and put one in the bottom of this new 'unit' BEFORE I put the fresh cat litter in? (That's what the white thing is between the two sections of the litter box in the above picture.)
And that's exactly what I did and now, cleaning the litter box is an easy and almost effortless chore. And best of all, THERE'S NO MESS !!
Check out these pictures below. So as not to 'gross you out', I've put gray squares over the used cat litter.
The picture at the left shows the two halves of the unit separated.
The middle picture shows the used cat litter in the plastic 'garbage type' bag ready to be removed from the lower unit of the litter box.
The picture on the right shows the used kitty litter all contained in the
litter box liner. Note the cleanliness of the bottom unit.
The cost of this two piece unit was around $20.00 in Pet Smart's store. But the price on their Website was $16.99. I called the store and asked why there was a price difference between their stores and their Webpage and while I didn't get an explanation as to why they charged two prices for the same unit, I WAS told that if I printed out a copy of their ad on their Webpage and brought it in to the store, the store would 'honor' the Webpage price. They did; I got the unit for $16.99.
As for the bags, I recall they were 30 bags on a roll for $9.99. If you change the litter every other day, that's figures out to be about 16 cents a day.
